The summit aims to strengthen cooperation between the GCC (Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE) and ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and the Philippines) and is expected to result in a joint statement outlining cooperation plans from 2024 to 2028.
The relationship between the two regions, rooted in shared bonds, has evolved over decades and includes economic, cultural, and strategic ties. The trade volume between them reached $93.9 billion in 2019.
The summit seeks to enhance coordination on mutual interests, activate regional and global strategic partnerships, and establish a framework for joint cooperation over the next five years.
